When is the retreat?

The FEARLESS retreat is Saturday-Sunday, January 26-27, 2019.  We will arrive at the retreat Saturday mid-morning and leave Sunday before lunch.


Where is the retreat?

The retreat is at the Shocco Springs Conference Center in Talledega, AL.

We are staying in the Mountain Ridge Lodge which contains the bedrooms and conference room.


What are driving directions to the retreat?

  1. Take I 20 East to Exit 168 (Lincoln / Talladega exit)
  2. Turn right toward Talladega
  3. Drive about 10 miles
  4. Turn right on Hwy. 275 South
  5. Drive about 1 block to Shocco Springs Road/ 325 West (first road on your right.)
  6. Turn right and drive 1 mile to the Shocco Springs Campus

How many will stay per room?

Each room in the Mountain View Lodge has 3 beds: 1 double bed and 2 bunk beds.  Three people will sleep in each room, so that each person has their own bed.  We won’t make anyone sleep in a top bunk!  (Of course, you can if you want to!)  The rooms are large, and everyone will have plenty of space.  The rooms are like hotel rooms – each with beds, a bathroom, window and heating/air.


How will roommates be selected?

Before the retreat, you will receive an attendee packet.  That packet will contain a form where you can request a roommate.  We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s requests!


How much does the retreat cost?

The cost of the retreat is $110. You may pay in two installments:

  • $55 is due at the time of registration to reserve your spot
  • $55 is due by December 1

What does the cost include?

The cost of the retreat includes

  • one night lodging at the Shocco Springs Mountain View Lodge
  • Bed linens and towels
  • 3 meals (lunch/dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday)
  • T-shirt
  • Keepsake
  • a wonderful weekend of fun, fellowship, reflection and renewal

How do I register for the retreat?

The easiest way is to register and pay online!  Click here and fill out the form to register!

If you prefer to register on paper or pay by check, pick up a registration form on the front desk of the church office.  There will also be a box there for you to return the registration form and payment.

Update: Registration is now closed – our retreat is full!  We would love to have you add yourself to the wait list, just in case a space becomes available.


What happens after I register?

After registration, you will receive a confirmation email.

Then you can keep up to date with the latest news on the retreat by following us on Facebook and this website!

Before the retreat, you will receive a packet of additional information including forms to request a roommate and specify food allergies or dietary restrictions.


How do I pay for the retreat?

There are two ways to pay for the retreat:

  1. You may pay for the retreat online by credit card.
  2. You may pay by check.  Write the check to RUMC, put “Women’s Retreat” in the memo line, and bring it to the Riverchase United Methodist Church front desk and place in the Women’s Retreat basket.

Is the registration fee refundable?

The registration fee is not refundable unless we are able to fill your spot.


What will we do at the retreat?

We will spend time together as a group and in small groups for breakout sessions inspired by our theme FEARLESS.  We will have speakers from our church, and we are planning a fun activity for Saturday afternoon.  There will also be free time to relax and get to know the other women.  Shocco has a beautiful, walkable campus, and there is a gift shop/book store to browse.  Keep checking back on this website and our Facebook page for updates!


What was last year’s retreat like?

Last year’s retreat was at Camp Sumatanga, and we had an amazing weekend!  Our theme was “Looking Up,” and we hiked up Chandler Mountain to have a session at the mountaintop chapel.  Back at camp, we had evening communion and fireside prayer stations. Click here to learn more about last year’s retreat.


How will this year’s retreat be different?

This year’s retreat will be at Shocco Springs Conference Center.  We will be staying in a larger building than last year, and our conference room is in the same building as the bedrooms and bathrooms.  All linens are provided by Shocco Springs.

The Shocco Springs campus is very walkable, and there is strong cell service for AT&T and Verizon.


What should I wear to the retreat?

Wear comfortable clothes to the retreat – like jeans or yoga pants – that you will be comfortable sitting or moving around.

Wear comfortable shoes and don’t forget to bring a coat!

What will we eat?

Shocco Springs has a bright and cheery cafeteria where we will eat lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.  We will also have snacks and bottled water in our lodge if you need something early, late, or in-between.


What if I have dietary restrictions?

Before the retreat, you will receive a packet of additional information which will include a form for you to specify any allergies or dietary restrictions.

Shocco Springs will do their best to accommodate all food allergies and special diets.  They are experienced in serving those with food allergies as well as special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free.


Is there cell reception at retreat?

Yes, there is good reception for AT&T and Verizon.


Will there be wifi at the retreat?

Yes, there is complimentary wifi throughout most of the campus.
