What is the retreat theme?

When is the retreat?
The retreat is Saturday-Sunday, February 1-2, 2020. We will arrive at Camp McDowell Saturday mid-morning and leave Sunday after lunch.
Where is the retreat?
The retreat is at beautiful Camp McDowell in Nauvoo, AL.

We will be staying in cabins in Parsley Commons. We will eat our meals in Doug Carpenter Hall and have our group sessions in Hall Hall. We will be taking church buses to help us get around.
Are we taking buses to the retreat?
Yes, we will be taking church buses to the retreat. We strongly encourage you to ride the bus to the retreat! It is a fun way to travel and a great way to get to spend time with the other women. Plus, parking is very limited at Camp McDowell!
We will use the buses to shuttle to our activities within the camp.
What are driving directions to the retreat?
- Take I-65 North in Birmingham.
- Take exit toward I-22, continue on I-22 until exit 63.
- Take exit 63 for AL-269 toward Jasper/Parrish.
- Turn right at second light onto 18th St, then immediately turn left onto 9th Ave.
- Continue straight on AL-195 for approximately 15 miles until mile marker 13, then turn right into Camp McDowell.
What are the cabins like?
Each cabin has 5 hotel-style bedrooms with 2 beds and a private bath. The cabins also have a front porch, back porch, and a common area with sofas and a kitchenette.
Each cabin has 2 accessible rooms, so please let us know if you would like these special accommodations.
How many will stay per room?
Each room has 2 beds, so we will stay 2 to a room. If you need special accommodations, please contact us and let us know!
How will roommates be selected?
Before the retreat, you will receive a questionnaire where you can request a roommate. We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s requests!
How much does the retreat cost?
The retreat costs $125. You will be able to pay for the retreat in one or two payments. A payment of $65 is required at the time of registration to secure your spot. You will be required to pay in full by November 8.
What does the cost include?
The cost of the retreat includes
- one night lodging at the Camp McDowell (bed linens and towels included)
- 4 meals
- lunch/dinner on Saturday in Doug Carpenter Hall
- breakfast on Sunday in Doug Carpenter Hall
- box lunch on Sunday
- fun, relaxing activities
- a wonderful weekend of fun, fellowship, reflection and renewal
How do I register for the retreat?
Online registration will open September 8. You can pay by credit card or debit card. Please let us know if you require assistance with registration or if you need to pay by check.
What happens after I register?
- After registration, you will receive a confirmation email. Then you can keep up to date with the latest news on the retreat by following us on Facebook and this website!
- If you do not pay in full at the time of registration, then you will get a reminder email before the second payment is due.
- Closer to retreat time, we will email you a questionnaire where you can request a roommate, specify food allergies/dietary restrictions, provide your t-shirt size, etc.
- Then in the weeks leading up to the retreat, we will email you any updated information or reminders that you might need.
Is the registration fee refundable?
The registration fee is not refundable unless we are able to fill your spot.
What will we do at the retreat?
We will spend time together as a group and in small groups for breakout sessions inspired by our theme verse Romans 12:12. We will have speakers from our church, music, and choices for fun activities. There will also be free time to relax and get to know the other women. McDowell has a beautiful, walkable campus. What was last year’s retreat like?
Last year’s retreat was at Shocco Springs. Our theme was FEARLESS, and we had speakers, small group breakout sessions, a fun painting activity, campfire communion, and prayer stations. Click here for more about our 2019 retreat.
How will this year’s retreat be different?
This year’s retreat will be at Camp McDowell. We will be staying in multiple cabins instead of one lodge with our meeting room in a different building. Our cabins each have space to visit and relax: front porch, back porch, and a common area with sofas and a kitchenette. The bedrooms each have two beds (no bunk beds!).
Camp McDowell is very walkable, but we will have the church buses to help us get around.
What should I wear to the retreat?
Wear comfortable clothes to the retreat – like jeans or yoga pants – that you will be comfortable sitting or moving around.
Wear comfortable shoes and don’t forget to bring a coat!

Bedding and towels are provided. We will also provide snacks and drinks.
What will we eat?
Camp McDowell has a large, beautiful cafeteria in Doug Carpenter Hall where we will eat lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. A box lunch will be provided Sunday before we leave.
Coffee, snacks, drinks, and water will be provided in both the meeting hall and in the cabins.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Before the retreat, you will receive a form that will allow you to specify any allergies or dietary restrictions.
Camp McDowell will do their best to accommodate all food allergies and special diets. They are experienced in serving those with food allergies as well as special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free.
